“The Bible and archaeology seem to disagree about this. First Kings 6:1 says the Exodus took place 480 years before solomon’s fourth year as king. His fourth year was 966 BC, which means Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt in 1446 BC. But many Bible scholars suggest the Exodus and conquest of Canaan (now Israel) took place in the 1200s. Their evidence? (1) Many Canaanite villages were destroyed during that century. (2) Exodus 1:11 says Israelite slaves build the city of Rameses, which Egyptian records say Rameses Ⅱ built in his honor.”
“Some Scholars in favor of the traditional date of 1446 BC say it is unknown who caused the destruction in Canaan two centuries later, it wasn’t necessarily the army of Joshua. I t could have been the Philistines. Regarding the mention of Rameses, scholars say that could have been a late editorial addition or a transcribing error (but the same argument could hold ture for the 1 kings verse that places the Exodus in 1446 BC).”
“Scholars remain divided on the issue. Many cling to the traditional date until stronger evidence compels them to do otherwise.”
