But David’s heart struck him after he had numbered the people. and David said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O Lord, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.(2 Samuel 24:10)
“David realized his sin and begged for forgiveness, but he could not avoid punishment. This is because the forgiveness of sin dose not mean exemption from punishment. Let’s remember that the wrongful belief that there is no need to repay for our actions if we repent makes our repentance nothing more than a formality.”
