Better is a little with the fear of the Lord
Exodus 16:18-20 ESV
But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat. And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.
Deuteronomy 8:2-3 ESV
You shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

폴 투르니에의 <강자와 약자>는 푸코의 담론에 의거해 니체의 논지를 반박한다. 다소 난삽한 전개지만 두려움에 직면할 것을 호소력있게 권고한다.

“God gave manna every day and commanded that that each person take just one omer for themselves. God did this to ensure that not one person among the Israelites could gain power through collecting a surplus of manna and thereby rule and exploit others. God is not pleased by a world in which material riches create power and discrimination. Therefore, the church, as a community of God’s people must reform prejudicial systems and pursue giving and sharing, so that our communal society can be one that is neither excessive nor insufficient.”
“There was people who broke God’s command and kept some manna till the morning. These people believed that their lives were sustained by the ‘manna’, not by God. Do we not also believe that our ample assets, rather than God, secure for us a steady future?”
