“나는 박근혜 대통령이 위기를 극복할 만한 자원을 많이 갖고 있다고 생각한다. 핵심은 인적자원인데, 박 대통령이 의외로 인적자원을 소진하지 않은 채로 인력풀을 갖고 있다. 지금 주위에 있는 분들 말고, 대선 때 경제민주화와 복지 이슈를 선점했던 사람들이 있지 않나. 김종인 박사, 이상돈 교수 같은 분들. 대선 때에는 후보가 이분들을 신뢰하고 공약과 캠페인이 그런 방향으로 나와서 승리할 수 있었다. 또 대통령이 당과 잘 협력해 당·청 관계를 매끄럽게 풀어가는 것이 대통령제에서는 대단히 중요하다. 그런데 새누리당의 새 지도부는, 이를테면 유승민 원내대표 같은 분은 실력이나 신뢰감에서 야당 쪽 자원과 비교해도 떨어지지 않는다. 대통령이 손만 뻗으면 쓸 수 있는 인적자원이 꽤 풍성하다.”(최장집)
Q. 같이 일하는 사람들을 대할 때 뭔가 특별한 원칙이 있나?
A. 확실한 목표를 설정해두고 있다. 나와 일을 하면 나와 만난 이후의 그 사람이 이전보다 조금은 더 나아져 있기를 바란다. 이서진씨가 우리 프로그램을 통해 더 좋은 이미지의 연예인이 되었으면 하고, 스태프들도 우리 프로그램 이후에 더 인정받고 더 벌이가 좋아지기를 바란다. 나와의 접점을 통해 현재 상황보다 더 나은 단계로 갈 수 있게 만들어주려고 한다. 면대면으로 만나서 장점과 단점을 파악하고, 지금은 어느 위치에 있으니 앞으로 어느 위치로 보내줘야 하는지, 각자에게 솔루션을 줄 수 있는 사람이 리더라고 생각한다.
Q. 뭔가 가장 같은 느낌이다.
A. 나와 함께 프로그램을 만드는 사람의 절반은 프리랜서다. 내가 피곤하니까 갑자기 쉬겠다고 하면 그 사람들은 오도 가도 못하게 된다. 내가 판단을 내릴 때 그들을 감안하는 것은 당연한 일이다. 내가 지금 만들고 있는 프로그램이 어쨌든 잘되어야 한다. 그래야 나랑 함께하는 사람들이 직업을 영위해 나갈 수 있다. 정서적·정량적 동기 부여를 늘 하려고 한다. 작은 칭찬부터 금전적인 혜택까지 여러 요소를 고려한다.
