“물 분자가 극이 계속 바뀌는 마이크로파를 만나면 서로 반대의 극을 쫓아가려는 성질 때문에 회전을 하게 된다. 마치 나침반에 자석을 갖다 대면 나침반의 바늘이 빙빙 도는 것과 같은 이치다. 이와 같이 음식물을 전자레인지 안에 넣고 마이크로파를 쪼이면, 음식물 속에 있는 물 분자들이 회전하면서 서로 부딪쳐 마찰열을 일으킨다. 바로 이 열로 인해 음식물이 익거나 데워지는 것이다.”
