“결혼을 하자 한달 도서구입비로 2만원이 책정됐다. 물론 그럴 수밖에 없는 상황이었다. 대학 강의를 하나 했는데 수입이 30만원밖에 안되었으니 뭐. 그렇지만 한 달에 50만원씩 책을 사다가 2만원이라니, 그건 형벌이었다. 나의 글쓰기는 그 형벌에서 다소나마 탈출해보겠다는 의지에서 비롯된다. 책을 사서 읽는 것은 소비적인 행위니까 그걸 재활용이 가능한 행위로 전환시키기 위해서는 글을 써야했던 것이다. 인터넷서점의 ‘이주의 리뷰’에 채택이 되면 몇 만 원 적립됐고, 거기에 혹해서 온라인상에 리뷰나 서평 형태의 글을 써나가기 시작했다. 《텍스트》라는 북매거진에 서평을 싣게 되면서부터는 오프라인 글쓰기도 병행해나갔다. 《한겨레21》에 ‘로쟈의 인문학 서재’를 연재하고 몇몇 매체에 정기적ㆍ비정기적으로 글을 싣게 되면서 나는 예기치 않게도 ‘서평꾼의 삶’을 살게 되었다.”(이현우)

“분리뇌 증후군 환자를 통한 의식에 대한 연구는 미국 산타바바라 소재 캘리포니아대학 심리학과 교수인 마이클 가자니가(Michael Gazzaniga) 박사와 신경생물학자 로저 스페리(Roger Sperry)에 의해 수행되었다. 이들의 연구는 분리뇌 환자들의 분리된 반구들이 각각 서로 다른 의식을 갖고 상대방의 영향 없이 별개의 자유의지를 수행한다는 것을 보여주었다. 서로 다른 반구들이 행동하는 양상을 관찰하면 눈에 띄는 점을 볼 수 있는데, 우반구가 제공하는 정보가 없을 때 좌반구는 자신이 수행한 행동에 대해 일관된, 그러나 틀린 설명을 지어낸다는 것이다. … 우반구한테서 걷는 이유에 대한 적절한 정보를 받지 못한 좌반구 뇌의 의식은 행동에 대해 스스로 그럴싸한 이유를 만들어 낸다. 그러고는 스스로 그런 행동을 지시한 것이 아닌데도 자신이 걷는 행위를 지시했다고 ‘착각’한다.”

* 문제는 원칙이 변형되고 있고 그마저도 공유되고 있지 않다는 것이다.

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
