“서울대는 지난 2009년 로스쿨 설립과 함께 학부에서 법대를 없애고 대신 자유전공학부를 신설했다. 법대 폐지 이후 문과에서는 취업률이 상대적으로 높은 경영대가 최고 인기 학과로 떠올랐다. 자유전공학부는 경영학 전공자가 많아서 한때 ‘경영대의 2중대’라고 불릴 정도였다.” 서울대 자유전공학부 전공선택 현황에 따르면, “2009년 입학한 서울대 자유전공학부 1기의 경우 2학년 때 115명 가운데 34명(29.5%)이 경영학을 전공으로 선택했다. 당시 공학계열을 선택한 학생은 단 2명(1.7％)뿐이었다.” “2016년 1학기에 전공을 선택한 학생 208명 가운데 전기·정보공학, 컴퓨터공학, 기계항공공학 등 공학계열을 선택한 학생이 38명으로 18%를 차지했다. 반면 경영학은 26명(12.5%)이 선택했다. 서울대 자유전공학부 학생들의 전공선택에서 공학계열이 경영학을 누른 것은 이번이 처음이다.”
