“프로이트의 정신분석이 ‘재단사’의 작업이라면, 융의 분석심리학은 ‘재봉사’의 작업에 가깝다. 프로이트가 날카로운 눈썰미로 사람의 몸을 딱 한 번만 보고도 놀라운 솜씨로 커다란 천을 그 사람 몸에 딱 맞게 잘라내는 재단사 같다면, 융은 전혀 상관없어 보이고 어울리지도 않을 것 같은 천 조각들을 아름다운 바느질로 봉합해내는 재봉사 같다. 프로이트의 정신분석이 MRI 촬영처럼 그 사람의 아픈 부위를 정확하게 짚어내는 진단의학에 가깝다면, 융의 분석심리학은 ‘무의식의 음기’와 ‘의식의 양기’의 불균형을 치유하는 한의학에 가깝다. 서양의학과 동양의학의 결합을 꿈꾸는 동서 협진이 얼마나 어려운 일인지는 알지만, 환자로서는 양쪽 모두의 정확한 소견이 필요할 때가 있다.”(정여울)
